Links 7/1/2011 Canada Day!

July 1, 2011
As far as I’m concerned, Canada Day means hockey free agency.
  • Ride of the Valkyries played by a bunch of pianos.
  • Regardless of how ridiculous an argument it is, corporations are still going to use these sorts of straw men for tightening copyright laws to support profits rather than the public.
  • I’ve entirely avoided reading reviews of Nico Muhly’s opera because I started hearing about widely divergent reactions and I don’t know any critics in Britain that I fully trust. This is a wonderful piece, however, on the reaction and giving a proper historical context to the opera.
  • I’ve been looking for this for weeks! Audio Theatre that uses multiple audio sources, or as it calls it, 3-D.
  • James Brown selling Miso Soup. Really.
  • Classical musicians’ attention to detail may look like snobbery.
  • Finally, from the best article I read all week: “When you look at the line of candidates up for the Republican presidential nomination, try to imagine any of them trying to run a their own big band, like Darcy James Argue, or create a career like Cecil Taylor, or produce Make Music New York. Then pick yourself up off the floor when you finish laughing.”
