Explorations Preview: Sebastian Armoza’s En Serrant

August 11, 2010

Tonight we’ll be hearing Sebastian’s piece for solo violin En Serrant.  Here’s a bit on our fearless composer:

Sebastian Armoza (b. 1974, Buenos Aires) is an Argentine-American composer. He received his musical training from the State University of New York system (BFA, SUNY Purchase; MA and PhD, SUNY Stony Brook). His work extends to all genres from orchestral, to chamber works, to electronic and computer-generated works. His music is characterized by complex and expressive textures. Commissions include Yarn/Wire, TimeTable Percussion Trio, Linda Wetherill, and Ensemble Pamplemousse. His primary teachers were Dary John Mizelle and Daniel Weymouth. Mr. Armoza currently lives in Forest Hills, New York.

You might remember Sebastian from the first season of Explorations, where we heard his piece POR for percussion trio.  Check it out here.  The violinist on En Serrant, Esther Noh is on the Internet as well!  Note a few upcoming dates (inc @ The Stone August 31st!).

So, tune in tonight at 8:30 to hear En Serrant, or check out the podcast when it hits this space afterwards.
