Preview: Steven Sugita-Becraft’s Dist

July 6, 2010

Tomorrow! I’ll be playing Steven Sugita-Becraft’s electronic piece entitled Dist.  There’s actually not a whole lot for me to say on the work, or Steven as he gave me the briefest descriptions about himself and the piece…

Steven Sugita-Becraft is a recent graduate of the University of Chicago, earning a degree in East Asian Languages & Civilizations.  His principal teacher was Howard Sandroff in computer music.  Steven currently resides in the “Japanese Alps.”

The recording we’ll hear of Dist is a stereo version of a six channel work presented at the 2008 University of Chicago Music Studio Concert.  “The piece explores FM & granular synthesis, as well as the relationship between artifacts created from reproductive error and ‘stretched time.'”
